About Me

Hi! My name is Kristi, and I'm an addict.

That's vague for a reason. I'm not an addict in any medically significant sort of way, but I certainly have a tendency of diving head-first into hobbies and interests, becoming quickly and feverishly obsessed, and then finally settling down into a more appropriate appreciation in said hobbies and interests.

It happened first with reading when I was just a little girl, and then with anime, and later with knitting, skincare, makeup, and now fragrance. Particularly the IndieMakeupandMore subreddit inspired in me a deep interest in indie fragrance, after having very little luck finding cruelty-free perfumes out in the stratosphere. Perhaps I initially went in with the intention of finding my "perfect fragrance," but sooner or later, the collector mentality and enabling tendencies of the other frequenters of the subreddit left me with the decision to just build an arsenal.

Here are some important-to-know things about me when it comes to fragrance reviews:

  1. I am hopelessly dry-skinned. Fragrance has a hard time on my skin with both throw and longevity. If your skin is more on the normal side, bear in mind any fragrances I try will likely be stronger and with more throw on you.
  2. I am a gourmand fanatic. The grand majority of the perfumes I own and wear religiously are gourmands, much to the disappointment of my fiancé, who doesn't love when I walk around smelling like toffee. When applicable, I'll add his thoughts on a fragrance so you can get a very basic layman's interpretation.
  3. I definitely have biases when it comes to certain fragrance houses; I'll try to address any negative biases I have toward a house in the review, but those houses are few and far-between. Additionally, I have notes that I amp, notes that disappear on my skin, notes that I love, and notes that I hate. I'll also try to address all of those things when applicable.
  4. I'm a music fiend, as I'm a fiend with everything else in my life. I'm going to pick a song for each and every fragrance I review. For fun. Don't take them seriously.

Here are some not important-to-know things about me when it comes to fragrance reviews:

  1. I have the best cat in the world. Fight me. Her name is Echo, and she's a fluffy little cinnamon roll who wouldn't hurt a fly. Her favorite things are our Sherpa blanket, snuggling, yelling at me for seemingly no reason when I come home from work, and poorly hunting the bugs in our basement.
  2. I work a desk job, and I work with words. I don't want to go much farther than that, but just know that I'm not sitting around at home all day smelling perfumes, as much as I'd truly love to.
  3. A few of my favorite writers are Kazuo Ishiguro, T.S. Eliot, Ray Bradbury, and Mark Z. Danielewski, but I'll admit I have a soft spot for edge-lords like Charles Bukowski and Chuck Palahniuk (one of my earliest serious writing inspirations) and YA writers like Holly Black and Melissa de la Cruz.
  4. Some of my favorite shows are Black Mirror, Madoka Magica, Steins;Gate, and Are You the One (shamelessly), and some of my favorite movies are Whiplash, The Place Beyond the Pines, Spirited Away, and Vanilla Sky. Hit me up with those book, show, or movie recommendations, literally out of nowhere. I'll love it.
